Neighborhoods Inc. Of Battle Creek (NIBC) Acquires the COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) Fund

NIBC is committed to expanding our work with programming designed to assist low to moderate income residents of the Greater Battle Creek Area.

Battle Creek, MI – Neighborhoods Inc. Of Battle Creek has acquired the Covid Emergency Rental Assistance Fund for Calhoun County. The Covid Emergency Rental Assistance Fund (CERA) was created by the Federal Government to reduce the burden on households caused by Covid-19. Such hardships include: reduction of income, increased household expenses, unemployment, and those who are at risk of homelessness or housing instability due to part due rent or utility payments. The CERA Fund assists with back rent and utility payments.

To date, in Calhoun County over 1890 cases have been processed since the CERA program started in March 2021. Previously the CERA program was a collaborative effort between Summit Pointe Housing, Community Action, and Neighborhoods Inc. Starting on December 1st, 2021, Neighborhoods Inc. is now the sole provider of CERA funds in Calhoun County with over 650 open cases. Since March 2021, 8 million dollars in rent and utility relief has been rewarded in Calhoun County. We have received 11.6 million dollars as a community for the CERA program.

“We are proud to administer the CERA funds in Calhoun County and offer support for those renting in the Greater Battle Creek Area.” Says Senior Managing Director, Kristyn Denison. “The CERA program is vital in supporting our mission of providing stable housing during these unprecedented times.”
