Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
Neighborhoods Inc. of Battle Creek (NIBC) has emergency rental assistance funds to support Battle Creek renters who were hit hardest by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Funds are available through a grant from the City of Battle Creek and are a part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act federal stimulus package. Emergency rental assistance is available to qualified households that have been economically impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic and reside in a rental unit located within the Battle Creek city limits.
Assistance may be provided if you have a qualifying unexpected, temporary loss of income due to the impacts of COVID-19 including domestic violence, loss of job, reduced work hours, a medical crisis, and increase of household expenses. This application process is used to determine eligibility and does not guarantee assistance.
Tenant-Based Rental Assistance Program (TBRA)
NIBC is accepting applications for the Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) Program. This program is designed to provide funds to low-to-moderate income individuals and families to secure stable rental housing. The program is being administered on behalf of the City of Battle Creek using HOME investment Partnership funds allocated to the City by the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The TBRA Program enables tenants to receive assistance in rental units of their own choosing, provided the unit meets basic program requirements. The program provides eligible LMI households with security deposits and monthly rental assistance for up to twelve months.
