The ALICE Program, funded by Old National Bank Foundation and the Huntington Bank Foundation, provides assistance with childcare and transportation to ease costs creating deferred housing payments that contribute to the risk of housing instability.

Alice stands for Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed.

ALICE households are households with income above the official Federal Poverty Level, but below a newly defined basic survival income level spending more than 30% of their household income on housing related expenses.

NIBC aims to bridge the gap in transportation and childcare costs related to economic opportunity for the ALICE population in Calhoun County. Services offered by NIBC include:

Child Care Assitance

Child Care Assistance will be issued to working class parents and legal guardians living in Calhoun County.

To qualify for the one-time payment of up to $500 you must be a working adult 18 years or older and meet income qualification of being at or below 80% Area Median Income.

Auto-Repair Assistance

NIBC will offer vehicular repair assistance to working class citizens in Calhoun County at or below 80% the Area Median Income for Calhoun County.

This assistance will be in the form of covering up to $500 in deferred vehicle repair costs performed by licensed mechanics or repair shops.

Transportation Assistance

NIBC provides up to $500 throughout a calendar year for public transportation assistance to working class citizens in Calhoun County.

Up to two weeks of bus passes for transportation to and from work  can be collected at a time. NIBC has Battle Creek Bus Passes available as well as Albion-Marshall Connector Passes!

Automobile Repairs: Up to $500 in assistance for vehicular repairs performed by a repair shop that is state licensed and insured. Fuel/gasoline assistance is not offered in the NIBC ALICE Program. 

Transportation Assistance: Up to $500 throughout a calendar year for public transportation to and from work providing up to two weeks worth of bus passes at a time.

Childcare Assistance: Up to $500 once per year for child-care arrearages. The childcare provider must be state-licensed with a signed W9. Future child-care assistance is not offered in the NIBC ALICE Program.
